The Struggles of Circumstance & Overcoming Challenges

There are many times in our career journey when the world and your location takes on crazy ideologies and the circumstances change, we can feel hopeless if we lose what we had or find ourselves moving into something new and scary.

We can't give up though, even through the hard times. Today, (personally at least) job opportunities seem out of reach due to an overflooding of applicants in our field or the talk of AI rising up and making us obsolete.

Some find luck and chance at the right time, others find upskilling a solution, your time will come, you just have to be in the right place at the right time, nothing is handed to you. It takes motivation which for some, comes naturally.

I am struggling to take on new freelance clients and get my name out there but that's just at the moment. The old Facebook and Instagram posting just isn't cutting it anymore. I find myself getting tired of these tactics anyway. Though there are many things that can still be done, like finding new goals, new activities to attempt. I am learning new skills in the trade, branching out and keeping myself busy.

Everyone's in different stages of their life, going through different things, don't compare yourself to someone and put yourself down for it.

Things that play a part in our struggle might be skill level vs job title, experience and opportunities and living situation.

Something like moving and living situations not being ideal can be a big obsticle in motivation. You can't let these things consume you. There are things you can still do to set up motivation, like exercise and planning for what's in reach. The small goals vs future goals.

No, all is not lost. Through positive affirmation and reaching out in social groups of similar interests, we can find a community of good people.

Finding friendships and connections, we can keep on moving, because what better thing to do than to uplift others in their journey while they uplift you too.

If you find yourself in a rut and feeling comfortable their, try your hardest to break out of it gradually. Small examples might be to try small trips to parks, places you haven't visited or read something at a library.

We may have to be our own motivators and break out of the "I can't do this because....." otherwise we won't get anywhere. If you can't do something because of a setback, find a solution that can work. It might not be ideal but I always say to do anything at all that gets you closer to your goal, is better than doing nothing at all.

Keep trying friends, all is not lost.
You are doing your best; you are doing something great!

Join an Artist Server | Digital Illustration | Painting & Sketching | Make Creative Friends

Hey guys!
I recently started a digital art Discord server. It’s for artists to chat about their journey and to also promote my own digital illustration journey into artist markets.

The goal is to help each other with motivation, feedback and share progress together. It’s for people of all levels of talent and for casual chats (SFW stuff of course).

Join if you're a lover of art and want to hang out with other like-minded creatives.

Ko-Fi Support Page - Help the Artist

Over on my Ko-Fi page, I'm seeing quite a friendly fun community who all want to support and help each other. It's also been great to keep my eyes on the prize.

So the Plan is = Finish my digital illustration pieces & enter into my first artist market in Brisbane. I am so excited, the prep work has been quite a fun ride and I'm sure I'll see a rewarding season ahead once I get it all done.

My Discord is shaping up nicely too, I have my first few visitors who are contributing amazingly.. Here's hoping that builds up to be somewhere a lot of people can help with creativity and send out good vibes.

Until next time, thanks again for reading my posts and helping me stick to a nice set of goals.

DREAM BIG

No matter how hard the market is or how unachievable things may seem, there's always a one step at a time approach. The process of trying until you make it and you will eventually tap into something, especially if your company grows overtime. It shows that you are someone to trust if you are willing to show your progress.

My journey, although a slow one (because of full time work) is one I am proud of so far. I'm happy to work on things when I can and it's always excited to see more and more people engaging in my work and giving me feedback too.

I only hope that things can keep evolving and that I can support others and their journey too. I want to build on a good community and meet more like-minded creatives.

Keep being amazing.

The Designer

Artist Statement: My name is Jack, I'm a digital artist in Brisbane, Australia. I'm a creator and my dream is to showcase my digital drawings and paintings at artist markets. To have my own store and to meet new people in the community.
This all started because of drawing for a video game I was helping to create at university (sounds fun/was stressful). These little drawings (hundreds of them needed in a game of course) evolved my desires from pencil and paper to digital creations.

My brand is called "Think Outside the Octopus" and my art is all about thinking outside of the box, my art consists of bright colours, animals and loveable characters. I want to bring my brand to life, to showcase something special.

I already have the illustrations either planned out or sketched out.(mostly consist of nature / animal related pieces that I hope will inspire others too.)

Think Outside the Octopus planning for the markets:

  • My logo printed on direct to garment + sewing a table runner and tablecloth (no booth of mine is going to be plain and dull.
  • Square tap and pay device.
  • Display stand/ white rack to display my work.
  • prices clearly market with stickers I've designed.
  • Cardboard backings for the art pieces to prevent bending and bags for customers.

Check my stuff. Can't wait to showcase some of my pieces. Using Fourthwall to bring my illustrations to product, I'm hoping to continue my creations and eventually join those artist markets too. 🥰

I hope there are lots of friends and support out there that I will find throughout this journey. Just need to keep creating.

Snake Splash Illustration - Tee Design

Working on a snake shirt that grabs attention, this ones been severed and still looks fierce. I'm hoping to now work longer projects that take up more time with a better end result but my living situation isn't the best. Need to move, need to create a studio space, need to work hard!!
